How do I sign up for Facebook????

This is REALLY annoying me.

Everytime I try to join facebook it asks me if I am in school/college/work etc... so I click college.

The next step is to add a "college email address" what is this? my college doesn't have an email. And my personal one wont work?

Anyone else had this problem?

How do I sign up for Facebook????
Hi, why do u want to join facebook? It sucks. Myspace is better. Just tell them u ain't in any college yet and later on u can join ur college network.

Good Luck and take care!
Reply:I'm kinda facebook adict, I choose college, and It didn't ask anything else, that's your mail, no matter if it's from ur college!

Anyone else experiencing trouble with Facebook?

I know I heard the other day about a few Georgia colleges that were unable to access Facebook. I'm at home (in georgia) and I have been having occasional problems and often finding connecting slower than it should be (atleast for the last few weeks). I'm also curious if its possible Firefox could be causing problems.

Anyone else experiencing trouble with Facebook?
It's probably be your internet connection being slow. Do you use dsl or cable? I'm not having any problems with facebook.

Is Facebook safe? Safer than Myspace? For a Freshmen in high school?

I'm just starting high school.

I was never allowed to have a Myspace, becuase my parents thought that it just wasn't safe.

They also said that Myspace wasn't made for my age group.

But Facebookis made specifically or high school and college studens, right?

So what do you think?

Does Facebook have better Privacy settings than Myspace?

I am old enough and responsible anough to know that I should only accept people as my friends who I FOR SURE know.

I am not interested in meeting new people.

I just want to keep in touch with my friends, who have moved away,

and my family.

Also, what if there are some things I don't want my friends to see, and only my family?

Is there any way to keep some things private from my friends, but then allow others to see?

And how do I keep my profile private from strangers?

And could you advise me in what I should say to my parents in order to convince them?

My mom will be easy,

but my dad is a bit harder t o persuade.

Is Facebook safe? Safer than Myspace? For a Freshmen in high school?
Yes facebook is much safer, and this is why. you have to have a verified email address from a college or university to be in that network. You can't just make up an email address and get on facebook. The sight is mainly for students. If you are in high school, the only way you can get on is if someone who is already in that high school says they know you. There are a lot more safety features, not all of the junk and profanity and vulgarity and bad photos like you find on myspace too. It's mostly just for keeping in contact with people you already know, and people use their real names. You will just add friends, and not be meeting people there. Show them what it looks like, as compared to the over the top pages on myspace, and they will like what they see.
Reply:Alright, a few different things to say.

1) You don't NEED a facebook or myspace, and if you need your parents' permission, that's kinda sad.

2) Facebook was never intended for high schoolers. They just recently opened it up to people who are not in college.

3) Because of this, creeps can access facebook and begin to stalk people.

However, there are more safety precautions. No one can even attempt to see your profile unless they are in your network or friend. You can make your settings even more secure by changing that to only people who are your friends. You can also decide what certain people see who are your friends. You just go to "My Account" and security and can play around with all of that good stuff.

You could approach your parents by saying that you want to keep in touch with your friends who have moved and your family members. If they seem to be going along with it, you could also suggest that they make one, so they can keep track of who you are talking to (Not something I would want my parents on, especially once I got older, but it might work.) Your other option of course is to just not tell them, but I do not believe in telling lies.
Reply:Hi!

I just finished my freshman year ;)

My mom is extremely nervous about me being on myspace and facebook. But she knows that she can trust me. I willingly let her check my myspace occasionally. Also, it calms her fear that my aunt is alos on myspace and can check up on my site. It sounds like you have family on myspace too. This is great for you and parents to keep everyone on the same page.

Myspace is very different from facebook in that it is harder to track people to see exactly who they are. I hate when people don't give any clue on their profile of who they are so you don't know whether you know them or not. Facebook is great because you can see their real name most times, and it is easier to find their information. I like it personally because it is more organized. But I do enjoy myspace because of all of the customiztions and creativity you can add to your page.

Which is safer?

They both are equal in my opinion. On both you can hide your profile from people who arent on your friend list. People can't search for you unless you are 18 and older. on myspace. On both though, you can choose to not put your name where it says to put your real name and you wont come up in searches. There are so many safety features on both that a sensible indidvidual can easily keep their profile safe.

As for hiding things from your friends but not your family, im pretty sure there are ways to get around that. It would take some looking into.

Now, for the hard part...

selling the idea to the 'rents...

Present the facts to your parents and let them no that you have nothing to hide and can show them your page anytime they would like. This should ease any concerns they have.

Hope this helps! Mail me if you have any other questions.

Reply:yes facebook is safer then myspace
Reply:facebook is way safer than myspace
Reply:I don't know if one is necessarily safer than the other but you can control your privacy settings on both. As long as you keep everything private and only viewable to your friends you should be safe. You also don't want to put any personal information up, this way no one can find you. Myspace does have a setting where you have to know the persons last name or email address to friend you so you won't have random people friending you. Facebook was made for college kids but now anyone can create one. I know face book has a setting that lets you pick what your friends see on your profile and which friends can see it, i'm not sure about myspace for that one though. I don't know what you could say to your parents to convince them but yoiu could just not tell them and put you name in backwards so they can't find you if they decide to check.
Reply:I totally disagree. Facebook broadcasts your address, phone number and all of those things to people in your network if you're not careful.

It also broadcasts your last name, which MySpace does not do. It even has a "news feed" that informs your friends what you've changed around on your profile or what "applications" you have added.

MySpace let's you decide what you want to broadcast because it lets you post bulletins. You can make your profile private, your photos private of 'friends only', and you can make your blogs readable by only you, a select list, friends only, or public.

I think Facebook gives too much information.
Reply:I'm a freshman in highschool also. I have been using facebook for about 2 months now and it is very safe in my opinion. Way safer than Myspace and also a lot better. The only real way someone can be your friend is if they are in your highschool or another highschool. Just don't accept any friend requests from people that you don't know and you will be fine. You can also make your profile private from your network so that only your friends can see your profile.

Just let your dad check out the site with you by himself and he will know what I mean.

MySpace IS dangerous. I'm 14 and I feel a lot safer on Facebook. Don't listen to some niave people who have MySpace and think it's perfectly safe, because it isn't. I've heard of kidnappings related to MySpace. Facebook is not only safer too, but its a lot cooler.

If you do end up getting a Facebook account, I don't recommend putting your address or phone number up there because people can see your information like telephone number, last name, address, school, and they can put all that information together and figure out where you live and you might be in danger, as they say, better to be safe than sorry.

Hope that helps!

Jason
Reply:Yes it is sorta safer then myspace lots less bugs too .... the only flaw on facebook is the "pid=" thing in the address bar when you're viewing pictures "tagged by others"... lets you see a few pictures in the profile of the person who "tagged" it sometimes.... (even private ones)

.... on myspace the pictures seem safe ... but everything else is bugged up...

Make a fake profile on myspace and facebook and see how they work - then if you decide to join one make a new real profile.
Reply:Facebook is much safer than MySpace. On Facebook, everyone is part of a network. Networks are made of memebers of a city or students in a school. Only people within your network are allowed to see your profile (and only if you want them to). Facebook is an excellent way to keep in contact with people you know from school.
Reply:UM...MYSPACE IS SAFE...JUZ DONT TALK TO PPL U DONT KNO N UR GONNA BE IGHT...
Reply:Yes!

Facebook is MUCH safer!

Everyone is apart of a network,

so most likely only the people you knwo

will be able to find you if your in their network.

The only time someone will see your profile is if

they are looking for someone in that network and

you pop up because of similar name, interests, etc.

Just got to settings,m and put it on profile so that way no one can see the page, and when someone wants to add you, they have to request or leave a message first.

Also, it's easier to figure out whose adding you on facebook opposed to Myspace, because unlike myspace, where when someone adds you, %26amp;thye don't always have a picture or something your familar with, Facebook has the person's name, and school, so you'll know who it is!
Reply:i know how you feel to cause im a freshman and im going to a differnet high school then all my friends but my mom still wont let me get one!!
Reply:Its safer and Facebook is for college
Reply:I have a Myspace and a Facebook and I feel a lot safer on Facebook than I do on Myspace. Even though with Facebook people can see your address and phone number, I still feel safer because I actually know the people I accept as my friends. The only thing is that Facebook now lets anyone join, so you may not know exactly who you're talking to and since you're only going to be a freshman in HS I wouldn't be bothered with Myspace or Facebook. Because in my honest opinion, you're too young and you don't know who's out there and if you really know them.

with Facebook whoevers your friend can see everything on your profile, you can't make it so certain people can only see certain things. Its the same with MySpace. The only difference with Myspace is that you can decide who sees your pics, comments, and blogs.

As for your parents, they're only looking out for you because you don't know who's who out there on Myspace or Facebook. Let them look at your profile pages and show them that you're being responsible and that you know everyone who's your friend. I'm 19 and my mother freaked out when she found out I had a Myspace because of privacy concerns. Explain to them why you want one. Let them check out the sites for themselves and don't try to pressure them into letting you have one because everyone else has one. Good luck!
Reply:both are safe to me....
Reply:Facebook is definitely more safe than myspace...you can set your privacy settings so that only your friends can see your profile (and for things like photo albums, you can even distinguish which friends you would like to be able to see them)...

...when anyone wants to be your friend, facebook sends you an e-mail so you can confirm or decline their friendship

or you can also set your privacy settings so that only people in your school network can view your profile...

basically, if you only want your friends and family to find you on facebook, its definitely possible and safe!
Reply:You can make yourself completely invisible on Facebook. You will only be seen by your friends. The bad news is that friends who aren't on your list won't be able to request/find you. You have to be the one who does all the requesting.
Reply:I'm a freshman in highschool also. I have been using facebook for about 2 months now and it is very safe in my opinion. Way safer than Myspace and also a lot better. Help me find a college student at PCC in Florida?

Fellow denizens of the mighty Yahoo! Answers. I am looking for one Margot Terese Dolbeare, known as margotterese on the web. I want to know if she is still ok. If anyone on here is going to Pensacola Christian College in Florida, you will find her there as of 2007. She is 19 with blond hair. I am not asking this from a personal interest , I just want to be certain she is still alive and has not been abducted. I have faith in my fellow nerds, and I wouldn't ask like this if I had any other way- I don't. No where on the web will you find any information except for the morning sun. There is no form of communication more open and accessible than Yahoo! Answers, and no social networks have as broad a span of users. Please do not bother with this query AT ALL if you are not faculty, staff , or students at PCC. for proof :(this person is not to be found on Myspace or facebook, but knows how to game(a lot) and use a computer. A college student? Who uses computers? Who doesn't facebook?)

Help me find a college student at PCC in Florida?
I have a nephew who goes there. I'll tell him to check it out for you.

How much Facebook is too much ??

We live together and are in our 30s. My girlfriend has been on Facebook for the last 9 months without telling me a word. She has some 30 friends there mostly highschool and college friends from years back that she emails via Facebook daily. Iam concerned in the following ways. Firstly she didnt tell me of her daily activities and I had to find it out by myself........does this warrant mistrust. Secondly, while I dont see finding old school friends as a negitive, should finding old boyfriends be of concern.

She is an attractive girl and to the single exboyfriend something to get pretty excited about.

I havent confronted her about Facebook for the last 6 months as I have tried to take the higher ground in hopes she would tell me about it.

What would you do ??

How much Facebook is too much ??
Just ask her about it. There is no reason for mistrust. Don't make a mountain out of it, just bring it up and ask her if she likes it, what it's all about, ask her to show you how to make an account. I know you can figure out how to make an account but the point is to ask her and let her show you.
Reply:She has a right to keep in touch with her old friends.

Also, do you tell her EVERY SINGLE thing you do in a day? Like every single person you chat with or say hi to? Do you show her every single email you get or receive? I can safely bet the answer to all of those questions is NO.

Can law enforcement view facebook profiles? Busted, Plausible, or Confirmed?

Other than your privacy settings being open to more than "friends only", one of your friend's being a nark, court ordered and subpoena, is there any way for law enforcement to view facebook profiles?

There there has been some recent college parties that were busted and the rumor is they were busted due to being posted as events on facebook.

My friend has an uncle that works for the highway patrol and apparently he says that he can view her whole profile (wall, pictures, etc) even though they are limited to friend's only.

I know that high schools give email addresses to their resource officers so they can create facebook accounts under that network. This would allow them to see anyone's profile that did not have it locked to "friend's only"

On their site the creators maintain they have a strict privacy policy. http://www.facebook.com/policy.php Is there any validity to law enforcement being able to access "friends only" profiles?

Can law enforcement view facebook profiles? Busted, Plausible, or Confirmed?
yes i have heard of that and also i have heard of employees checking up on staff on the facebook - even those going for a job have been checked up on first
Reply:Yes, I could see that for sure. Cops have busted parties because people make them 'events' on facebook. The Government probablys lurks everyones profiles.

Socially inept guy in facebook?

have a facebook profile which is set to private, what happen is that i dont have any friends at all and is embarrasing since most people in that that site have a gazillion of pics on their profiles. I just have a few pics of me with my family (LOL) like thanksgiving, christmas and first communions. i dont have a single picture of me in a party ,with friends ,etc. I want tou use facebook to meet girls but when they see my profile they are going to see how socially challenged i am. i have a myspace too whre is easier to look coool ( i started it with a few "fake " friends which profiles i set up myself and make them private). Doing that in facebook is much harder. Facebook unlike Myspace makes harder for lonelly people to look like social butterflies.

I dont want to use myspace anymore , i want to jump in the facebook vagon cause i want to meet more college educated girls, but this issue, even when it looks so stupid for some people, is keeping me from doing it.

Any advice?

Socially inept guy in facebook?
get out man, go to a bar, join a gym or a team somewhere... you cant expect to meet and make friends solely online. good luck
Reply:if you want friends on facebook....just either join a group or just randomly look for people in you state or city....then add them as a friend....trust me, most people will add you...
Reply:Join a network to be able to look through profiles of other people in that network that you may want to connect to, and join some groups that are specifically for making friends, like this one:

http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=22...

and this one:

http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=22...

another here:

http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=22...

and many more if you do a search...
Reply:HI...im socially inept too :) but im not allowed to have a face book...! dont feel bad...us socially inept people are too good for facebooks! talk to peole in real life....dont bother with facebook
Reply:its better and alot EASIER to meet people in real life. the best way to overcome something is to face it. tell yourself you are and act like you are a social butterfly and eventually, you will be. join a club or group that interests to meet more people, add them on facebook and they'll pobly introduce you to more people. if u meet someone ONLINE they might not EXIST....you have to remember that people make up stuff all the time, just like you made those fake profiles on myspace.

hope i was of help!

You know how colleges can look at your facebook account....?

can they look at any accounts that you are in. like do they look at your yahoo answers account? or any other account you have on the internet?

You know how colleges can look at your facebook account....?
your paranoid. they wouldnt waste their time
Reply:Sure if you have told them your user names and passwords. If they find a way to sign into any of your accounts and without YOUR permission, you can SUE them blind. Since most people know this, they're not going to do it. However, colleges, just like the general public, can look at your public profile, so I would advise you to make all of that private if you have anything that you wouldn't want the public to see.

Try not to worry too much :)
Reply:thats probably just a rumor, i don't think they care enough or have the time to go and look through prospective students facebook accounts. sounds like a myth to me.
Reply:yes
Reply:I doubt that they can do much about a yahoo answers account. These questions are open to the public. Anyone can view them. But I can't see how they would be able to trace your questions and your YA account back to you.

As for facebook, I have heard numerous stories about how employers and colleges and universities have looked at a person's facebook to get a general idea about what kind of person they really are and whether they are dependable.
Reply:they could look at your facebook, unless your account is set on private.

they could not look at your yahoo account or any other account, email or otherwise, because they can't prove it is you.
Reply:Not unless you use them on school computers. Delete the history when your done.
Reply:They might. You never know who's going to see what you put on the internet. If they can find your myspace, they can probably find any other account you have.
Reply:Nope. I doubt they could track that info - unless you accessed it through college computers.

Facebook stalker??

this weird kid that goes to the same college as me has been sending me weird facebook messages and keeps askin for my number and stuff. can i block him from sending me messages??? it's really creeping me out

Facebook stalker??
Yep, click on "privacy" on the top right corner. Scroll down until your see "Block People" on the bottom left. Type in the weird kid's name in the box, and it will search for him. Note there might be other people with the same name as his, so search until you find him on the list. When you do, click on "Block Person" on the right side of his name...and your done. =)
Reply:you should be able to but id not know how sry
Reply:Yes. Go to privacy, and on the bottom left, type his name under "block people."
Reply:Take no chances. If you know who he is or not report him/this to college administration, campus security and FB admin. Now. Never assume it is just a prank. That is how people disappear and worse. Seriously!! Do it.
Reply:just delete him for your friends' list

HELP!! I accidentally deleted my Facebook account!!?

So being the brilliant person I am, I didn't even just deactivate my Facebook account the normal way. Here's what I did:

-I had a college account that I used and for some reason, fbook did not let me join my high school network although I wanted to join

-Using my high school email address, I created a separate account.

-I changed the high school account's contact email to the college email address, thinking that I could merge the two this way

-BUT since the college account now had no email address (i.e. no way to sign in), it automatically disappeared from facebook. Gone.. Zip. Zero

Now all I have is this dinky new high school account with no friends, no profile, picture, nothing. I already sent an email to Facebook to ask if they can retrieve the college one, but does anyone else have experience with this kind of thing? I know it sounds really lame but I stored so much information on there and am really desperate to get it back!

HELP!! I accidentally deleted my Facebook account!!?
usually if you try to sign back in under your college account, it will give you the option to re-activate.

i did this same thing when i merged my two accounts about a year ago and i was scared at first but it worked out okay.....

im almost sure that they can retrieve your account given the fact that you dont really have an option to delete your account, just deactivate it. good luck and im sure the wonderful people at facebook will be able to bring it back!

Friends Facebook question?

Okay, so on my Facebook profile page, my friends from the college I go to are listed in picture form in the left hand column of my page. I would like to know how I could get this to do the same thing to just my regular friends that I'm not in college with, cause at the moment, they are listed in "Friends in other networks" and I'd like to see them in picture form like my college box has. Hope that makes sense and thanks for ur help! :)

Friends Facebook question?
On mine, it shows "Friends" and this includes everyone, not just the people from my network. They do change randomly. Refresh you page to make sure your friends from your other networks show up.

How should I advertise (spread the word) of my college website?

we are selling electronics to college students and I am wondering if anyone has suggestions on how to spread the word. what is the best way to reach the college students and what do companies like facebook do to go from 0 users to 100000000000000000000000 users :) !!

How should I advertise (spread the word) of my college website?
*Place an ad in the college newspaper

*Put brochures in all the student unions, lounges and other gathering areas

*Set up a booth in a high traffic area for students to sign up to receive mailers on promotions and offers (as an incentive you can offer free t-shirt that advertise your electronic product or other catchy gadgets)

*Have you team hand out coupons near campus housing areas, library, bookstore and other relevant places..

*You can recruit fraternities, sororities, Ra's to spread the word in exchange for a pizza party for their brothers, sisters, floors, communities

***whatever you decided to do have fun, involve other people and use your creativity that's the best way to connect with college students and remember the three F's food, free stuff and fun (any student can relate to that) Good luck!!!!!!!
Reply:i'm offering free advertising..give me your email address and i can give you more info. and you can just use word of mouth. if one person likes the website they'll tell other people to get one.
Reply:you just did.
Reply:If you want to attract people to your web site, you must have content that draws interest. If you do not have information that is useful to a person, that person is not going to visit your website.

Try reading a couple of books on ecommerce and website design.

Other than that, you could try advertising in every college newspaper in the United States.
Reply:You want to concentrate on search engine marketing.

What do certain Facebook "education" tabs mean?

In the Education section in my Facebook profile, I want to enter my college network.

The first doubt I have is that I don't know the difference between being an undergrad and a grad student.

The second one is that I don't know which year to put. Traditionally the year after the college name is the year you have left the institution, but as I am a new student, I don't know what to put.

Thanks in advance!

What do certain Facebook "education" tabs mean?
First of all, the difference between an Undergraduate and Graduate student is the degree they are going for. If you are in school to earn a Master's degree (meaning you have already earned a Bachelor's degree, and are going to get a degree on top of that) you are a Graduate student. If you are in college for the first time and are earning a Bachelor's degree, you are and "Undergrad." In addition, you put the year you are going to graduate as your class year. Let's say you're a Freshman, and are going for a 4 year bachelors degree. This means you are the class of 2011. That's pretty much all you need to know.

The problem is that recently Facebook opened its doors to users of all ages so I doubt you'll be able to do anything about that. I guess your best bet would be to just ignore them.

Reply:If they're 13 or over they have just as much of a right as you do. That's the new minimum age you can use to sign up. You can't do anything about it.

I'm pretty sure you just block them yourself. You go under privacy and then just write down their names. I think you can also report them there, but I'm not possitive they'll be completely deleted if you can't prove it.

Facebook privacy profile weird question?

I log onto my facebook and see a persons profile at my college. She looks pretty good. I can click on her profile and view her profile b/c if you are in same college, you can unless they have privacy settings on people that is not their friend. I do not know her and she is not my friend but i have seen her around.

The thing weird is i have 2 friends that tried to see her profile using their facebook accounts.. they both go to same college as me and both of them tells me they cant view her profile b/c it is private... like her name is in black so she put privacy settings obviously.

Is there a reason why i can view her profile whereas my other friends cannot? Note, i dont have this person as a friend on facebook.

Any logical reason for this? Maybe she allows people who are an exception???

Facebook privacy profile weird question?
Do you have any common friends with this girl? Facebook changed up their system so they can allow friends of friends to view each other's profiles. If you have some of the same friends as this girl, that could be how you can see her profile but your friends can't. Maybe your other friends don't have any common friends with her but you do.
Reply:You might be on a different network with her that your friends are not. For example, whatever city you're in. Maybe she's in the same city network. See if she is, have your friends join the city network and see if that works.

And then stop stalking her!

How to delete a network on my facebook?

i just created a facebook and i accidentally put my college and 2007, because i was confused and i should have put 2011, how do i fix it?

How to delete a network on my facebook?
I don't think you need to actually leave the network to fix your class year.

Click on 'account' at the top right of your sceenand then click on the 'Networks' tab. Click 'Edit Info' beside your college and then change your class year.

But if you really do want to remove yourself from the network, follow the instructions above given by HoneyBee and PotterFreak07.
Reply:On the top bar, there is a thing that says "Networks".

Clicky on the arrow, and you'll see the network you belong to.

Clicky on it, that will lead you to the networks page. Scroll all the way to the bottom, and you'll see a thing that says "Leave this network".

Good Luck!
Reply:Next to "Network" is a little arrow..click that then click on "Join A Network"..you'll see the network you're a part of come up with an option that says "Leave Network"..click on that %26amp; you're free to join the right one :)

I like this girl on facebook. what shoul i do? Poking, add her, message her?

I've been in love with this girl since the 03 summer. We lived in the same town and i saw her around in the park, the pool and in the football games ( we attended "rival" schools), however I never had the guts to talk to her since we dont have friends in common. Recently I found her in facebook by accident ( she goes to college away from NJ) and she is single, but I dont want to add her as a friend since We dont know each other. It is ok poking someone you dont know? i'd like to talk to her but i dont want to look like a stalker, she is really hot and i supossed there is plenty of guys out there annoying her with poks and friend request.

What should i do?

I like this girl on facebook. what shoul i do? Poking, add her, message her?
i think you should send her a message if possible, some ppl allow messages from ppl they dont have as friends, then tell her who you are, say that u lived in the same town and would like to keep in touch thru facebook, mention u saw her a couple of times at the football games and throw in the name of her school, so she knows ur not lying , but never had the chance to talk.. u dont need to say a lot at first then wait for a response, if she replies then add her as a friend and she will accept if she doesnt then i would either try to meet her friends and then get around to her or just forget about it... but it seems your very interested in this girl so just build up some courage and be straight forward if she replies then dont waste the oportunity to get to know her, if ur honest she wont think ur a stalker ;) its only what i think u should do but in the end i think u should listen to yourself and do whatever is gonna make u feel better
Reply:forget the poking, and add her as a friend....just say hi...if she is not interested...then you will know and then you can move on....

PS: I hope it works out for you!

Facebook help?

I sent a facebook friend request to a former college friend and colleague last March and she has not accepted it. We took the same classes and worked in projects together. We worked well together and helped each other in our school work and personal lives. We both graduated in June and have since corresponded once. And she called me to help her with her with something.

I am going to call her soon (she moved to another city) and see how she is doing. Should I politely ask why she did not accept my request. Can I do it with any tact? I don't want to offend her at all.

I know that she uses fb a lot and has a lot of friends so it hurts that she has not accepted me.

Facebook help?
why push it with someone who declined a friendship request? how sad is that.

first of all make some real friends and peel yourself away from the computer and maybe this will cease to have any real meaning.

facebook is a good way to tell all of your friends at once, whats going on in your life. and to find out what theyre up to.

there are no strings attached. if people thought they would start to be stalked by everyone who they ever had a passing friendship with facebook would have folded up by now.

GROW UP and take NO for an answer
Reply:Send her one more facebook request. There's a chance it's been deleted accidentaly or something because I've done that before. If she still doesn't accept it then drop it. She obviously doesn't want you to see her profile, (whether pictures or something). Sorry bud, but if she doesn't accept this time, its on purpose. You could ask her why... but that might just make things awkward. I would just drop the whole thing if I were you after sending one more request.
Reply:Since you are good friends, just ask her politely why she did not accept your request

Simple enough
Reply:This is just me....but I go months without checking facebook. Maybe she's not even seen the invite? I would casually mention it, don't make a big deal over it. Such as, "What's up with facebook? You can't be my friend there?" Something like that, keep it light. It probably means absolutely nothing in terms of how she feels about you.

Are you sure she uses FB a lot? Maybe she's been really preoccupied since you said she moved to another city. Maybe she hasn't really checked her acct a lot recently. It's a lot easier to say "it's only" FB, but if it really bugs ya, definitely ask her why. But bring it up nonchalantly. Don't make it as if it's all you've been thinking about because that's just weird. You could talk about how cool FB is with keeping up with people, maybe jokingly bring it up like "hey, I added you!" I dunno. But definitely keep it light. If you bring it up in a serious tone, that might just freak her out.
Reply:look i don't enderstand very well

you can reinvete her and tell her that is you
Reply:you could try readding her or sending her a messege and start a conversation like what has she been up to and that. x
Reply:if she hasn't accepted you, big deal. find a new friend, this one's obviously not much of a friend if you seem to be making all the effort.

it is possible she hasn't been on in a while, or couldn't remember who you were, or accidently clicked the wrong thing. but i would just forget about her.

Why is Facebook over-rated? There's nothing special about it. Can anybody clarify?

It is a social networking site similar to Myspace (which I think fell off and is sooooooooo old). There's nothing different and better about Facebook, in fact I still think Myspace is better. Why is there empty hype when there isn't any creativity and uniqueness in Facebook? In Myspace you can do much more things. Also Facebook used to be exclusively for college kids, but now I heard they let everybody in.

Why is Facebook over-rated? There's nothing special about it. Can anybody clarify?
There is something unique about Facebook. I find it weird that most don't care about it though.

FaceBook sells your private information to other companies for profit. Go sign up and read the terms of service. They even state it in there.

This isn't a conspiracy theory these are mere facts. You can

read about it in your privacy policy when you sign up. Not to mention the countless articles about it on the internet. FaceBook is not secretive about it either. They have said the same thing in several medias too. It is the price for using their site. Anything you put in your profile you basically agree they can use no matter how private. There is no on/off switch towards Facebook itself just other users. Thats exactly where the problem lies.

Then there is the thing about the tracking cookie you also get from going to their site.

Microsoft has bought assets in FaceBook for about 240 Million Dollars simply because your private information is priceless when it comes to marketing information. What Moves and Grooves amongst the youth today products wise and what sites they frequent

Reply:FACEBOOK used to the the ISH when randoms couldn't join and it was just college students. It was great to network with old friends of high school, middle school, and elementary. It was easier finding people because you could see how your friends knew that person, IE: went to elementary school together. You knew that if that friend went to elementary school with you, you'd know that friend.

Now that anybody can join facebook and they added all those stupid minifeeds and applications it's gone down terribly!!

I don't feel like vampire sucking on my neck, I'm tired of being a victim!
Reply:Although it's intentions of networking fellow students is nice, it generates it's revenue from selling marketing based information generated from whatever you submit to the site. It's true what they say, "Good intentions pave the road to hell."

Some users prefer Facebook because of it's simple to use interface and clean pages. Users can't change colors and whatnot so information is displayed the same.

Does Facebook have an age limit?

It used to be that to be in facebook you had to be in college, but now they changed it and i have looked on a lot of websites and i cant find an age limit will somebody please help me????

Does Facebook have an age limit?
Here you go. From Facebook's Terms of Use

Reply:Well technicallys it's only for high school and college students, but you can lie about your age and say you're older than you actually are.

I got mine when I was 14.

I know some people who got it in grade 7.

so I'm pretty sure it doesn't matter.

Am I the only one in the states that doesn't have a MYSPACE or FACEBOOK account?

I thought my sister told me you have to belong to a college or something to be in facebook, which I do, but I just think the whole thing is a waste of time. Well, not a waste of time really, I just would rather spend my time on the internet doing other stuff. NO, not visiting porn sites.

Am I the only one in the states that doesn't have a MYSPACE or FACEBOOK account?
I have never understood the popularity of Myspace. It seems like a waste of time for me too.

I would rather be reading or researching something of interest, looking up my genealogy, or helping other people in YA.

So, you are not alone!

Why can anyone join Facebook now?

I orginally joinded facebook because it was only for college students and you had to have your school lised to join. Now anyone can be on facebook no matter what and I dont; like it. DOes anyone know why Facebook changed? and do you like it how it is now?

Why can anyone join Facebook now?
Facebook's success will depend upon having a very large client base. The idea is to push advertising at them as the revenue stream. Thus it is necessary to suck in every body they can to inflate their numbers and thereby demand more money from the advertisers.
Reply:Not everyone is supposed to be able to join FaceBook, only high school and college students/recent graduates

But people are now lying about what grade they are in (i.e. middle schoolers can claim they are freshman, older people can say they graduated a college)
Reply:Well lets see...not everyone goes to college, (ya know, maybe because they can't afford it), and is that any real reason to keep someone off of a website that helps you keep in touch with old friends and make new ones?
Reply:i hate it now but they changed it to expand their targeted groups and to make more money
Reply:its been that way for a YEAR and two months now
Reply:I agree. It was kind of special that only people from school could join, but it is probably going to get out of hand w/fake profiles like MySpace now that they have changed it.
Reply:no idea
Reply:Better way of networking i guess, i'm a member but i don't visit often its too time consuming i like 360 or myspace better
Reply:i really like facebook and i like the fact that you dont just have to be a college student to join it! i have friends from all over on facebook and thats whats its about ,,, keeping in touch with old and new friends!
Reply:its trying to be like myspace.
Reply:never heard of it.
Reply:It will have changed so they can have more money.

More people, more people click adverts?

It's not always great when a site changes because they need more money, but normally it means that the site will be improved for everyone.

I like the way facebook is now, I think it's a lot more fun than it used to be =]
Reply:Why not let anyone join Facebook? It gets more revenue from advertising if more people join.

I don't like Facebook too much overall because of the whole privacy issue, but I use it anyway.
Reply:i think its pretty cool but thats me because im a high school student and alot of friends and i keep updated through facebook i think its better and they did it that way because they needed money or something
Reply:It probably changed due to people posting fake schools in place of their real one.
Reply:so they can make more money...

like myspace?
Reply:I never been to facebook ,,,I know nothing about it...I thought it was a place to put your photos,,,dahhhhh I will have to check it out ,,,,
Reply:I like my privacy too much so I have just avoided facebook altogether.
Reply:Because they want to make $$, and they're limited if they only allow college students.

I personally prefer Yuniti ( http://yuniti.com ), they're still a small site and a lot of fun (and offer a lot of things Facebook doesn't)
Reply:no i don't know why it changed, and i don't like it at all.

they should have left it as it was.

Original facebook. keep out professors?

i have a question about facebook. originally, it was just for college students. the way they made sure of that was by students signing up with a .edu email address. however, professors have .edu email address. does that mean that many professors pretended to be college students and were looking at everyones profile?

also, would there have been any way of keeping non-students out?

Original facebook. keep out professors?
The answer to your question is very simple

No there is no way for them to tell the difference

If you have an edu email or (in the UK) an ac email then you can join and check out what everyone is saying and doing!!!!

AJ
Reply:actually professors were and still are allowed to sign up for facebook.
Reply:Professors have been able to join for as long as I can remember (I've been on there as a college student for over two years.). I don't think many of them "pretended" they just made a profile and used it as they pleased, just like an student can and could do! I don't think a disclaimer is necessary; Facebook has never discouraged them from joining.
Reply:One thing that's really good to remember is that the Internet is not a private place. It never has been. You should never post anything on the Internet -- including Facebook -- that you wouldn't want people to see. Not only is the Internet a public place, but most things you post online can be called back up for years. I can do a search using my name and find things I wrote almost 15 years ago.
Reply:I am a professor and I have a couple of edu accounts- and as an alum I have access to a couple of places I graduated from.

Our dean of students checks up on student conduct all the time using facebook-

AND who says college students have to be a certain age? I could enroll in a class and be a college student again!!!
Reply:The only truely succesful way would be to require a sealed authentification in paper directly from the school. It's like age gates on websites. You are required to select your birth date, but they can't stop you from selecting a false date.

It's all based on trust. Which doesn't happen much in todays world. Especially on the Internet.

Messaging with a girl i like via facebook?

so i have expressed my interest in a girl that i go to college with anonymously(honesty box) over facebook...these are the messages

ME: i think you are very beautiful person on the inside and out. you always have interesting things to say...

also, i have had my eye on you for quite some time, but i have been afraid to tell you how i feel.

HER:you can always pull me to the side and tell me whaever...thanks for your comment. who is this by the way

so i figure the mature thing to do would be to just tell her its me...im nervous because i dont think im her type, fear of rejection i guess....she knows im nervous around people i like and quite shy...so i figured it would be a great way to break the ice

Reply:Tell her. If not, you seem a bit like a stalker.
Reply:Yes, tell her. What would be the point in telling her you like her if you stay anonymous forever? Try to tell her in person, if possible. If you can't, tell her online, but tell her! You never know...

:)
Reply:Go for it and tell her =) If you like her then the only way you're going to get anywhere is to tell her who you are. Good luck

You said nearly all guys, so you have some girls, right?

Tell your Friends that are girls (I wouldn't use gf) to meet some of your friends.
Reply:Practice talking to girls. Once you get over your fear, you can start flirting with them.

Try to be cocky and funny, meaning bust on them or make fun of them, but do it in a light-hearted way. Make girls laugh and make the feel like you are in control of the conversation.

Girls don't like wussies. So stop being embarrassed and approached them.

treat them with respect.

you know...just like you would expect them to treat you.

have a nice day!
Reply:Sharron's right. If you really want to just be their friend - make sure your intentions show that. Lots of sleezy guys use that line to get in a girl's pants. I've always just been the opposite of you, I find I get along better with girls than guys. All my friends are so completely jealous! I find that striking up a conversation with a girl can be somewhat disarming because most of the time they may be thinking - is this guy just trying to hit on me? I've been off the market so long (dating the love of my life since high school) maybe I throw off a "safe" vibe to girls that I'm not looking to screw them over. Just look for something to start up a conversation with them. If she's wearing a sports team jersey, ask her "so are you a [insert team name here] fan?" chat it up little bit and then say, "i'm Joe from down the hall it was nice talking to you" and walk away. Chances are, next time she sees you you can chat about something else. Maybe you become friends, maybe not if not, talk to someone else. Just be confident and get out there!!

BAM. u got a friend.
Reply:Well to start off, you might want to boost up your confidence a bit. You sound like a very nice guy which I'm sure many girls would like to meet. However you are going to have to make the first move and that includes not looking awkward or feeling nervous. Girls like guys who are confident and laid back. They don't want a nervous guy who doesn't know how to talk to them. Start off by asking them how they are doing. People like it when you give them attention and from there find out what kind of things they like and what they don't like. Don't forget to smile and at the very end of your conversation say, "Hey we should hang out sometime." Remember most importantly is to be yourself.
Reply:OK...first, get HONST. Your looking for a gf, not just a friend. If it's friendship your after, you have that with your male friends.

YOU are in the driver's seat.

And when you approach a woman, no matter what happens, no matter what her reaction, it is up to YOU to take her mentally where you want to go. Let me tell you something, if you go up to a woman in a public place where she is NOT expecting it, you can't expect her to just say "HERE I AM, TAKE ME!".

If it was THAT pathetically easy, EVERY GUY would do it!

Let's face it- it's not typical social convention to do this. To just "go up to a woman". AND THAT IS A GOOD, GOOD THING. Because by NOT following social convention, it shows you have GUTS.

Women LIKE that.

It ALSO is more romantic for a woman to have a man SPONTANEOUSLY approach her than for her to have a formal introduction. It's far more impulsive and thrilling when a man sees a woman and just goes right up to her. So even though a woman may give you at first a slightly defensive reaction, like her eyes widening a bit, RELAX.

DON'T ABANDON SHIP.

STAY ON COURSE.

This is to be expected many times.

STAY COOL.

She is looking to YOU, the MAN, to show her that you are NOT PSYCHO, and ALSO that you are A SEXY, COOL, CONFIDENT MAN who does NOT give up at her natural defensive reaction. One of the things you can do to lessen her fear, is to approach her with a funny TEASE. It's hard to be scared and laughing at the same time. One of my favorite lines to ask a woman who is walking somewhere, "Hey where do you think you're going?" and no matter what she responds, tease her on it.

Remember, it's not the line, you can come up with thousands of your own lines, it's the attitude you convey. TEASING also prevents you from looking like a desperate man trying to kiss up to her. Your BODY LANGUAGE conveys much of your message as well- if you are SMILING the ENTIRE time you are talking to her, she will feel that she already has you hook line and sinker, and so there is nothing left for her to work for - you've ROBBED her of THE JOY of trying to IMPRESS YOU.

After all, she doesn't HAVE to try anymore, since you've indicated with your constant smiling that she ALREADY HAS you. Instead of giving a woman ALL THE POWER in the interaction, I recommend you HOLD ON to some of it yourself, and let a woman EARN the rest.

How can i protect myself from people i know on facebook?

I am kind of the minority here, a new college student who doesn't like facebook. Everyone I want to talk to from high school I know how to talk to, and I just see facebook as a way for everyone I didn't get along with to get at me and bother me. What I want to know is there any way I can take things into my own hands and actively stop people I know from using my name on facebook and connecting me to things I have nothing to do with, or doing the same with pictures of me and taking them out of context?

How can i protect myself from people i know on facebook?
To prevent people from contacting you that you don't want to contact you, you can block those people, it will be an option to the right of their profile badge when you search their name. What do college students like on websites? what should it look like?

I'm putting together a website made for college students only. I want this site to truley capture campus life, truley capture what us college students like, what we want, what we actually care about, what we don't care about, what we hate about our colleges, what we thought it would have been like, what we eat, what we DRINK, without the hassle of parrents, jobs, schools, cops, finding out like some other sites.

See, I was really upset when my space became ADspace, and I was really ticked off when I found out that you didn't need a college email address to make a facebook. Anyone else pissed about this? Well no more, This is going to be a website exclusivly for us students, no one else. Help me out, suggest what it should look like, what it should have on it, what it shouldn't have on it, what you think makes other "college lifestyle sites" suck. Let me know everyone! Let's take over!

Well, LoL - For The Rest Of Us That Are Practically Computer-Illiterate, Please Make Is Somewhat Easy To Use. Also, Colors Make A Nice Addition!!!!

Facebook confirmation e-mail?

I'm heading to college and trying to start a facebook before I go. I register and they say they send me a confirmation e-mail but I never get it. I've done it a couple times and I'm POSITIVE it's the right e-mail address I put in. It's my school e-mail address and it doesn't filter out junk mail or anything like that. So, why am I not recieving the confirmation e-mail?

Facebook confirmation e-mail?
Your school's server may have facebook blocked which would filter out any information concerning facebook before it reaches you. Try setting up a free email at www.hotmail.com and this will work for you.

It's also best to use an email address you'll have for an extended period of time, and since you're leaving for college you'll no longer have access to your school email address.

I hope this helps!
Reply:probably you should go on ahead login into face book or try re-registering
Reply:the best way is to use ur yahoo mail add, when registering, becoz ur college server must have blocked facebook and other social websites like it

Do colleges really look at facebook and are all over it...Is it risky to have one?

its risky to have one if you put pics of you drinking, smoking weed and stuff...and other stupid stuff..because one of you hundreds of friends can print out you page and snitch....other than that if your page is clean..its fine...same for myspace..(myspace is more skecthy and eaiser to get in trouble)

Do colleges really look at facebook and are all over it...Is it risky to have one?
It would be easier for colleges to look at your myspace rather than facebook.

Unless those colleges are in the same network as you on Facebook, than they can't see your profile. If you have a default picture of you drinking underage, they can only see that, and think whatever they may.

=]
Reply:Yes, they do look at them. It is really fine to have one, but it shouldn't contain inappropriate material. (Think if you were to print your profile and hand it to the college, what would you want them to see?) In some cases it is good to have an account. I have read about one woman who's prospective boss looked at her facebook, and saw that she had pictures of her traveling Italy, scuba diving, mountain climbing, etc; and she also had a picture of her at a party, with a beer in her hand. The employer overlooked this picture, because her profile had demonstrated she was a very well rounded person. So good luck on your college applications!

Facebook: Should it ever have been opened up to the general population?

I wanted to ask this in the higher education section. Facebook began as an exclusive college/university hangout. A place for students to meet their peers from class in the more comfortable and more anonymous environment of the internet. But, Facebook has been taken over by high school students, junior high school students, and perhaps more shockingly, the middle aged. What's the verdict?

Facebook: Should it ever have been opened up to the general population?
Definitely not. The great thing about Facebook in the first place was its university-exclusiveness. I loved the courses feature that let you see who was in your class. That was really useful for meeting new people. Now FB's all grossly commercialized and everything...and no courses feature. Bah.
Reply:I don't think it should have been.

To me, having it limited to colleges/universities is what made it special.
Reply:i think facebook should have only been opened up to those in high school and college...after all werent the facebooks in real life created to help students learn who their classmates are...middle schoolers are ridiculous and employers on the site is flat out stupid...also theres too many crappy applications...basically facebook is becoming myspace
Reply:The middle-aged? What, praytell, is middle-aged to you?

I'm 27 and am in the network for Las Vegas. My college is not in there as a network so where the hell am I supposed to go? I like it the way it is and think it should be open for everyone. You know how many users the site would lose if it shut down all the accounts from people not in a middle school, high school, or college network? Yea, a lot. And it would be a bad business move on Facebook's part.

Face it, it won't change to a specific group anytime soon. And leave the older people alone. My husband is nearly 40 and can still pass for 30. And he's an SJSU alum as of 2004 in Economics.

EDIT:

I am well aware of how and where Facebook began thanks. I'm not stupid so please don't reply to me as though I am.
Reply:i think it should be for college students. i go to ASU and i got a lot of college friends. jr high n high school students can take their fake *** back to myspace. (fyi myspace seems lame to me. idk y just so...fake)

Do colleges really check the facebook account of its applicants?

I'm not really sure about colleges but I read an article about businesses and companies are now checking facebook, myspace and other social websites to screen potential employees. If they see any pictures or things in your about me section that might be a little off, then they will pass.

For example, in the article a computer company was hiring some type of computer engineering job and they screened him on either facebook or myspace and in his hobbies section he put "hacking into national websites"... which probably was a joke but the company passed on him because it wasnt funny to them I guess..

anyway, I dont know how colleges or companies can check your facebook account anyway if you are not in the same network because you have privacy where not jsut anyone can look at it unless they are your friend or in your network.

And what i did after reading that article is put a privacy setting where people even in my own network cannot look at my profile unless we are friends.

Do colleges really check the facebook account of its applicants?
Yes they do. I've heard stories about people not getting in because they have or other people tagged them in a picture drinking/doing drugs.
Reply:I doubt they have time to do that.. but it wouldn't surprise me.

Reply:my school blocks everything too, so i went to a seperate server (or a private one like at home or a friends house) and went to proxy.org. they have a huge list of working proxies and all you have to do keep chosing off of the list until you find one that your server doesnt have blocked. i know it's kind of a pain in the ***, but when you find one that works write it down so you can keep using it over and over again. Oh and i don't know if your school checks the history on your computers but if they do just make sure that you delete it each time you use that proxy otherwise you're just going to have another dead link. I hope this helped somewhat. Good luck!

I would suggest MySpace.com. It is true that many college students use Facebook, but there are still plenty on MySpace. I just did a search for you and there are 134 current Germanna students on MySpace.

How did you get so many friends on Facebook?

I am out of college but want to use Facebook to re-connect w. old acquaintainces. I added about 8 friends so far that I know, but feel weird contacting people/acquaintainces I haven't seen/spoken to in years. Also- I wonder how it seems like everyone on Facebook has 100+ friends (or in this range). I don't think I know that many people from school and am just wondering- if you're one of those people with a lot of friends on Facebook- did you know all of those people personally? or did you e-mail random people from your school?

How did you get so many friends on Facebook?
i have 227 friends. i was just out of high school when i got facebook, and have a lot of ppl i graduated with as well as ppl above or below me a bit that i knew. so i get a lot that way since my graduating class had 300 and something, and i was very involved in student council and other activities so i became friends with many ppl older or younger than me over my years in high school. but i dont just have random ppl. there are others on facebook who i know but hardly talked to so i dont add them.

now im in college and i try to add at least a person i get to know in each of my classes in case i ever have questions, so after i know someone a few weeks who i sit by or whatever, i add them. however, we have a major university in my hometown, which i am attending and have been for 4 semesters, so chances are i probably already know someone in my classes. there arent near as many ppl in my college network as my high school

i also have my old high school teachers, youth ministers, and i am even finding friends that moved away in middle school or junior high that i was close with. i usually get new friends thru my current friends. i might scroll through someones friends and find ppl i want to add. also since most of my friends on facebook are from my high school chances are i have several ppl add "bob" when bob first gets facebook so it pops up on my home screen that 7 ppl added bob and if i knew him well i might add him too.

hope that explains some!
Reply:The thing is that, the more you meet people and get to know them, either you or they will add you on facebook..or old friends from elementary, high school, college and or even current co-workers and past will search you up. I have like 199 friends and only about 3 of them are random friends.
Reply:Most people use the "contact importer" to add friends from their Hotmail account that use Facebook. Well, that's how I added people and how people add me anyway. I'm not one of those people who add a million friends for attention, but I do know a few. They add people they met once or twice, or friends of friends, or people they've worked with, I'm not sure why. They could have like 300 people on their list, but only actually know 50 or 100 and out of those, they are actually close friends with like 20. So I don't know, the whole thing is like a popularity contest. It's different for everyone but that's my opinion. =)

Is there something you wish you had done in college that you did no accomplish?

Question Details: Example: Honor Role, Ask a girl-guy out, volunteer work, extracurricular activity, focus, your major, study abroad, apply for scholarships, join facebook. I'm a college right now and I haven't done some of these things. I'm a Junior. Please answer the question.

Is there something you wish you had done in college that you did no accomplish?
Havent gotten there yet, but when i do , i plan on making a lot of time for clubbing and partying before i gotta go out to work.
Reply:Going on my 4th school year of community college and I wish that I hadn't spent too much time messing around and ditching class when I first started, because by the end of this school year, my fellow high school friends who did it right and went to communtiy college, tranferred within 2 years, are now going to graduate with a BA, when I'm barely going to be tranferring! Wish I could go back and do again...
Reply:not in college :)

The great thing about facebook is that shouldn't feel wierd about contacting old acquaintainces!! I am also out of college, and alot of times people from my high school and college who I barely talked too will friend request me (and I've done the same.)

I have do not accept friend requests from strangers, so i do know my 100+ friends. Alot of them are people that were in clubs and classes with me, even if I didn't know them well. Also, whenever I meet a friend of a friend, I'll request them.

A way to find friends in to do a search of your school (high school) or major at college, etc and request anyone you remember. Also, I'll pick a few friends when I am bored and look at their friend list. I often find people from high school that i've lost touch with that way.
Reply:You will see that those with 100+ friends are usually university students and therefore already have instant access to classmates, etc. However, I'm sure such people only have casual links with many of there Facebook friends.
Reply:No, I just asked a question similar to this one and I'm just going to reply with my opinion. The people I add, I know them in person (in real life). They are co-workers, friends, old friends that I've re-connected with, family, or classmates. I don't add random people that I don't know, but I'm sure many people on Facebook do, because I get at least a few friend requests a week from people I don't know at all, and reject their requests. I make sure the people on my friends list are people that I want to stay in touch with in the future.

Don't worry about have a million friends, everyone starts out with a few and as you see more of your friends online, your list will grow. Just have fun. =)
Reply:mauhahaha we just have alot of friends.

most of the people are acquaintances; friends of friends, or even friends of friends of friends. you can add anyone if you want. just request them. just like any other social networking site, you really have to know them first to add them. you could add them and spark a new friendship or something. its a place to get reacquainted with old friends, and also a place to make new ones.
