Do colleges really look at your myspace/facebook?

Yes, they do. Especially if you're on the border of getting in/not getting in. Someone earlier mentioned that they check these sites as well for job applicants - true again. The internet is not anonymous, as many seem to think.

Do colleges really look at your myspace/facebook?
It is my understanding that some do. Which ones? Don't know. It is definitely better to be safe than sorry. Even if your prospective colleges aren't looking, a prospective employer might be. Just be mindful of that, and careful about what you put out there for all to see and read.
Reply:most colleges get around 15,000+ applications a year, do you think they have time to check each persons myspace/facebook.
Reply:naw... people say that to scare you... i mean of course, if someone has a grudge against you and wants to make ur life hell, they COULD blab it and then colleges would look, but otherwise, naww.....
Reply:If you're that paranoid, just put everything on private.
Reply:They do- you would be surprised how often they do this. There was an article in the Kaplan Newsweek "How to Get Into College 2007 Edition" where it talks about some kids getting expelled from school or getting punished from having their myspace/facebooks looked at and read.

Cameron Walker: went to Fisher College- wrote some things on facebook about a petition that was dedicated to getting a campus police fired. He got expelled for violating the school's harassment policy.

Lots more like him...
