New on Facebook?

I just started using facebook and so far I love it.. but I have been a loner all through my college years.. now I am constantly worried what to say or do.. I got a lot of people who added me.. but not sure as to how I can make friendships/acquaintances with these people.. I have never met them but they all go to my college.. Is there some ettiquette I have to follow.. How do I make some more friends.. and not just people who add me as friends and then do nothing.

Ok, now that I'm finished self-promoting, I'll say, from experience, that Facebook is a GREAT tool for making friends in school, if used right. There's no real method that needs to be followed, just a determination of knowing what you want.





One rule I have on Facebook is that I will NOT approve someone's friend request unless I know them or they try to get to know me. Now, in your case, what I may do is e-mail people who send requests and introduce yourself. Some people will just add you for the sake of making it look like they have more friends, so this is a good method to weed them out.





Another good way to go about it is to join groups for things you like and look up other members on there that interest you. You can also click on your interests/favorite movies/music/etc on your own profile and it will bring up a list of others who have matching interests... this is a good way to meet people as well.

Reply:Your best bet would be to join a group so that you can share a common interest with people and talk to them that way.
Reply:talk to them in class, go to sporting events, stuff like that. Don't just sit around in your dorm waiting for them to come to you. Be yourself.
Reply:just try to be more social. Go to school events, talk to people more in classs.. you'll be sure to make some friends. Then once you make a few friends there will be a whole bunch of friends you will meet after that. It just takes a little confidence to get started, but once you do, you'll be part of the crowd. Its alot of fun just hanging out with people and doing stupid school activities and hey, some of the people you meet could become some of your best friends. you never really know. so just put yourself out there and try your best to make new friends.. just dont try too hard or seem eager..then people will think you're just too clingy and they won't want to hang out with you.





oh and if someone adds you, and they do nothing about it, make the effort to leave them a comment saying whats up or something. they could be in one of your classes for all you know, or they may even be in your dorm building if you are staying in one. Things work out in mysterious ways.
