What exactly is 6 degrees of separation?

It is the theory that any one person is connected to any other person by no more than six people. For example I am connected to George Bush (yuck) Since I know my father #1, who works with a guy #2, who knows a Senator Obama #3, who knows Bush #4. You can connect yourself to anyone this way.

What exactly is 6 degrees of separation?
It's the concept that there are only six relationships connecting everyone on the planet.





e.g. - your entire circle of contacts, their entire circle of contacts, their entire circle of contacts, their entire circle of contacts, their entire circle of contacts, and their entire circle of contacts

Reply:I'm not one hundred percent sure, but I believe it means that everyone in the world is connected in some way through 6 or less people.





it's hard to explain, but through all the people everyone knows, you could connect yourself to anyone in the world through ties of people you know, and they know, and THEY know, by only 6 or less people. No more.

world experiment" by social psychologist

Reply:...it has to do with the probability of long minimal chains. Of course, the more people on earth, the more degrees of separation will be necessary. The number is so low because the mathematical law describing this phenomenon has a logarithmic growth (very very low)... which is sort of the opposite of exponential growth (very very fast). The law is probabilistic, in that it is possible to find a few cases where it doesn't hold (try to compute the degree of separation between one of those segregated little-buddha wannabes and some hermit pygmy.

Reply:Each degree is a person. I am connected to Keanu Reeves because my husbands' friends' friend introduced him(husbands friend) to a girl that took him to event where he met Keanu. That's 5 degrees which means I am 6 degrees moved from everyone Keanu knows.
